Purpose
Lens Coding™ is a reasoning pattern and safety framework designed to improve AI reliability and failure containment through better context structuring.
This license is intended to:
- Enable free and open use of the Lens Coding methodology
- Preserve clear attribution and provenance
- Prevent misleading claims of certification, endorsement, or compliance
- Protect users from false authority in safety-critical contexts
Section 1 — Open Pattern Grant
The conceptual methodology known as Lens Coding may be freely:
- Studied
- Used
- Implemented
- Adapted
- Modified
- Integrated
for personal, educational, research, operational, and commercial purposes, including use in production systems and professional environments.
No permission is required to use the ideas, structure, or concepts described in this repository.
Attribution Requirement
Attribution is required when referencing Lens Coding™ by name.
Attribution must clearly acknowledge the original source, for example:
"Inspired by Lens Coding™ by Justin Mayhew / GrimyOps, LLC"
Attribution:
- Does not imply endorsement
- Does not grant certification
- Does not authorize trademark use beyond reference
Section 2 — Reality Lens
Reality Lens™ refers to a practical implementation inspired by the Lens Coding™ methodology that produces structured, constraint-aware context artifacts for AI-assisted reasoning.
Reality Lens outputs:
- Provide informational context only
- Do not modify AI models
- Do not automate decisions
- Do not guarantee correctness, safety, or outcomes
Reality Lens artifacts are subject to the same non-certification, non-endorsement, and no-guarantee principles outlined in this license.
Section 3 — Trademark & Claims Restrictions
"Lens Coding™" is a trademark of Justin Mayhew / GrimyOps, LLC.
To preserve clarity, trust, and safety, you may NOT use the Lens Coding™ name, branding, or designation in a manner that implies:
- Official certification
- Compliance validation
- Endorsement or approval
- Partnership or authorization
- Safety guarantees
Prohibited Examples (without written permission)
- "Lens Coding™ Certified"
- "Lens Coding™ Compliant"
- "Official Lens Coding™ Implementation"
- "Approved by Lens Coding™ / GrimyOps"
- "Powered by Lens Coding™" when used by third parties in a manner implying official partnership or authorization
Permitted References
You may reference Lens Coding™ descriptively, for example:
- "Inspired by Lens Coding™ by Justin Mayhew"
- "Based on Lens Coding™ principles"
- "Evaluated against Lens Coding™ criteria"
- "Adapts concepts from the Lens Coding™ framework"
These references must not suggest endorsement, validation, or certification.
Section 4 — Derivative Works & Generated Outputs
You may create derivative works or adaptations of the Lens Coding methodology.
However:
- Derivative works may not be represented as official Lens Coding™
- Modified versions must be clearly identified as independent adaptations
- Attribution to the original Lens Coding™ framework is required when referenced
Generated outputs (including Reality Lens artifacts, templates, or context documents) may be used, modified, and distributed by the user, but may not be represented as official Lens Coding™ certified materials.
Section 5 — No Warranty / No Guarantee
Lens Coding™ is provided "AS IS", without warranty of any kind, express or implied.
Lens Coding™:
- Does not guarantee correctness
- Does not guarantee safety
- Does not replace human judgment or professional oversight
Use of Lens Coding™ or Reality Lens in safety-critical, medical, legal, financial, or infrastructure contexts requires independent validation and appropriate human authority.
In no event shall Justin Mayhew or GrimyOps, LLC be liable for any damages, claims, or losses arising from the use or misuse of this methodology.
Section 6 — Official Certification & Services
GrimyOps, LLC may offer, now or in the future:
- Official Lens Coding™ certifications
- Validation or audit services
- Training or educational programs
- Evaluation templates or test harnesses
- Consulting or advisory services
Participation in or representation of such programs requires explicit written authorization.
No rights to certification or endorsement are granted by this license.
Section 7 — License Scope & Modifications
This license applies to the Lens Coding™ materials obtained at the time of use.
Future revisions of this license will not retroactively apply unless explicitly agreed in writing.
